The Executive Director of the Register of Damage for Ukraine, Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi, welcomed the Minister of Justice of Latvia, Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, to the Register's headquarters in The Hague.
Latvia, a founding member of RD4U, is actively involved in the work of the Register. Last year, Latvia hosted the 2nd meeting of the Conference of Participants of the Register and the Informal Conference of Ministers of Justice in Riga where the “Riga principles” were adopted.
Minister Lībiņa-Egnere's visit testifies to Latvia's continued support for Ukraine in advancing on the path of restoring justice and providing reparation to the victims of Russia's aggression.
During the visit, discussions focused on ways of strengthening collaboration to support the Register’s work of documenting and processing incoming claims on damage and evidence, with a victim-centred approach at its core. Priority is given to the dignity, respect and involvement of victims in the process, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable groups of individuals, such as women and children.
The Minister of Justice of Latvia and the Executive Director of RD4U also discussed the necessity to proceed with the work on the establishment of the compensation mechanism, including the claims commission and the compensation fund, as a matter of urgency.
Finally, RD4U Executive Director Kliuchkovskyi expressed his deep appreciation to Minister of Justice Lībiņa-Egnere for her substantial and continuous support for the work of the Register.
