Ukrainian and international members of the Register's Civil Society Coordination Platform, along with the Register’s Board and Executive Director, convened in Kyiv to advance efforts in supporting victims of Russia’s aggression. The discussion focused on strengthening justice and accountability, with key national and international partners contributing their expertise. This collaborative effort underscores the shared commitment to ensuring compensation for those affected by the war.

The Chair of the Board of the Register, Robert Spano, highlighted in his opening intervention the significance of partnership with civil society in documenting war-related damage: “The work of the Register is an essential step towards delivering justice to victims of the war in Ukraine. Through the Coordination Platform, we reinforce our collective efforts to ensure that those affected have their voices heard within the process at the Register and that they can benefit from effective support to submit their claims swiftly.”

The Executive Director of the Register, Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi, underlined the practical outcomes of the meeting: “Engaging directly with civil society organisations is crucial in making the claims process of the Register even more accessible to war victims. Our discussions on submission procedures and the victim-centred approach, which lies at the core of the Register’s work, help us understand victims’ concerns and how best to strengthen capacity building to support them.”

Launched last year, the Register’s Civil Society Coordination Platform seeks to unite the efforts of the Register and civil society organisations supporting war-affected individuals and communities. By fostering collaboration, the Platform aims to raise awareness both within Ukraine and internationally, highlighting the Register’s mandate, activities, claims categories, and the claims submission process.

As the Register evolves, continued engagement with civil society, as well as national authorities and international organisations, remains vital to ensuring comprehensive documentation of damages, losses, and injuries, which is essential to strengthening the broader accountability process.
